A DI (direct injection) box converts an unbalanced, high-impedance signal from an instrument, keyboard, laptop or playback device into a balanced, mic-level signal. That signal can then travel long cable runs to a mixing console or stage box without picking up noise. Most DI boxes also include a ground lift to cure hum and buzz.
Active DI boxes: phantom-powered DIs with extra headroom and clarity, ideal for acoustic guitars, bass, keyboards and other low-output or passive pickups
Passive DI boxes: robust, transformer-based DIs with no power required, suited to high-output sources such as keyboards and active instruments
Stereo and computer DIs: stereo and multi-channel DIs for laptops, playback devices and media players
Rack-mount DIs: multi-channel rack units for permanent installations and touring racks
