Jands Vista Controls Triumphant Bloc Party Show

2nd September 2013

A Jands Vista T2 console controlled an incredible light show for the ‘farewell’ headline performance by British indie rock band Bloc Party at Latitude Festival

The Latitude show, designed by prolific Lighting Designer, Rob Sinclair, was the culmination of Bloc Party’s European summer festival tour, and followed on from their recent tour spanning Europe, the US, Japan and Australia.

Sandy Sims, who programmed and operated the T2 for the final leg of the tour, was using Vista for the first time.

“We designed three different shows using the T2,” explains Rob. “The big show was based around the four rings of the latest album cover, the smaller show around a rejected cover that had four squares, and the summer festival show around four large Briese reflector lights.”

Rob continues “I've been using Jands Vista for so long it's almost an extension of my brain. The software is great, and the support from Jands is fabulous. The Vista makes the process of making the lights do things to support the music much quicker and easier. ”

Sandy comments “The Bloc Party festival gigs were the first time I’d used the Vista, and I only had two half days to learn the ins and outs of its features. However, I’m happy to say it was a breeze - utterly user-friendly, intuitive, and feature-rich.”

Sandy continues “Much of the show’s lighting had been pre-programmed on the T2, but as each venue offered different lighting, they varied a lot.”

The Vista's generic fixture control made this process both fast and accurate in the tightly timed changeovers, with Rob adding “The fixture swapping and cloning is faultless.”

For the Latitude gig - the ‘big one’ - Sandy increased the lighting rig for maximum impact. “The T2 was a joy to use!” he reports.

Bloc Party have announced that they are taking an ‘indefinite hiatus’ following their headline appearance at Latitude, with no firm plans to play live or make any more albums.

The Vista T2 was supplied to the tour by Lite Alternative and originally purchased from Jands' exclusive UK dealer, A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) Ltd.

Other recent Vista show applications include the visually spectacular launch event of the brand new rollercoaster, 'The Smiler' at popular UK theme park, Alton Towers Resort; the current North American concert tour of Platinum selling country music artist, Dierks Bentley; and providing eye-catching outdoor mood lighting for the British Racing Drivers’ Club's (BRDC) dazzling annual British Grand Prix party at Silverstone UK racing circuit.
