Color Blocks Supplied for BBC Radio Ulster 30th Anniversary Celebrations

19th October 2005

Forty Chroma-Q® Color Blocks were used for a two-day music extravaganza this summer to round off BBC Radio Ulster's 30th Birthday celebrations.

The LaganLive concerts series was held at the Custom House Square in Belfast and featured Irish artists The Thrills, The Undertones, Therapy?, The Revs, Leya and Brian Kennedy amongst others.

For the event's simultaneous indoor and outdoor concerts, which had very different stage lighting requirements, rental company Production Services Ireland proposed using the Chroma-Q® Color Block single LED fixture due its easily re-configurable design and ability to create a wide range of effects lighting.

The fixture can be used individually or connected together to create a wide variety of shapes, including battens, blinders, footlights, side fills, cyclorama floods, truss toners and discreet set piece lighting.

Following a session by A.C.'s James Bawn and Production Services Ireland to demonstrate the Color Block's functionality to the concert LDs and staff from BBC NI, the fixture was selected for the project.

On the indoor stage thirty Color Blocks were used as colour changers to uplight the opaque stage floor, whilst on the outdoor stage ten were rigged from an upstage flown truss as individual units for colour wash and blinder effects.

Brian Reilly, Managing Director of Production Services Ireland, commented: " The BBC Radio Ulster Anniversary provided the perfect platform to introduce the Chroma-Q Color Blocks to the events industry in Northern Ireland. The wide variety of music events served to highlight the versatility and diversity of the lighting effects, while their ease of re-configuration proved a hit with LD's Philip Brines and John Gallagher. Such was the success and interest in the Color Blocks that PSI didn't hesitate in integrating them into our hire stock, and have used them on several indoor and outdoor events since."
