AC-ET and Green Hippo Piece it Together with Green Hippo JigSaw
9th June 2011
A.C Entertainment Technologies Ltd's Video division and real-time media display experts, Green Hippo joined forces at the 2011 Museums & Heritage exhibition to show for the first time in the UK the new JigSaw stand-alone software.
Held in the Brompton Hall of London's Earls Court exhibition centre, the show attracted a wide range of visitors - including AV professionals and designers from the world of museums, tourist attractions, heritage venues, theme parks and edutainment - who turned out in impressive numbers to see the latest technologies, products and services available for their industry.
A.C. Video is the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for the innovative range of Green Hippo media server products, however the specific focus of the collaboration was to showcase JigSaw, a brand new multi-screen management system developed by Green Hippo.
JigSaw is a versatile software control solution for PCs that allows multiple servers to work together and behave as if they are a single virtual canvass. JigSaw-enabled computers can be connected to as many output devices (e.g. screen surfaces) as the user has licences for, and to as many different screen configurations as desired - which can be varying physical sizes and resolutions.
Once configured, the 'canvas' of JigSaw servers is seen as one large integrated virtual display space, so one high resolution image can be divided and spread across all surfaces and controlled, edited, moved, manipulated, etc., extremely quickly and easily 'live' in real-time from an intuitive control centre.
Editing a piece of video on one surface alters the image on all making up the entire canvass - the image is not split into separate screens by a graphics card or run through other conversion devices.
JigSaw is available as a per license dongle, allowing users the complete flexibility of choosing the hardware with which they want to work.
A.C Video's Lee House comments, "It is powerful, simple and easy to use, and an ideal product for building and running interactive exhibits and displays of all types. This is a key reason we thought the Museums & Heritage show was a great opportunity to reach a well targeted audience".
The show was a big success for A.C. Video. The stand was constantly busy and JigSaw generated lots of contacts. "The visitor quality was high and the interest in JigSaw was enormous" says Lee, adding that they also spoke to several international visitors along with those working in crossover sectors like retail and architainment.
To ensure that anyone passing the A.C. Video / Green Hippo stand immediately received a clear picture of the product's capabilities and what it was all about, JigSaw was demonstrated running across six iMacs and 27 inch screens fixed to the wall, displaying an overall image of 15,360 x 1440 pixels.
It's scope as a real-time interactive display control tool was highlighted in a demo, where secondary layers of video beneath the top image were revealed as a Perspex marker was drawn across the whole canvas.
Nigel Sadler, head of Green Hippo special projects, commented: "This is the first time Green Hippo have exhibited at the Museums & Heritage show and I'm really excited by the response we received to the new JigSaw stand-alone software and the Hippotizer range of media servers. The support we received from the Video division of A.C. Entertainment Technologies, our exclusive UK and Ireland distributor, was fantastic as always. A.C. Video's Lee House, and the company as a whole, have a vast knowledge and experience supplying tailored Green Hippo video solutions to many different markets, so we look forward to working with them to further develop this emerging sector of our business."
