Jands Vista L5 Provides Visual Spectacular for 'The Smiler' Rollercoaster Launch at Alton Towers Resort
2nd October 2013
The flagship of the Jands Vista lighting and media control range - the Vista L5 - again proved its flexibility and power when it provided control for the visually spectacular launch event of the brand new rollercoaster, 'The Smiler' at the UK’s favourite Theme Park, Alton Towers Resort.
The Smiler is the world's first 14 loop rollercoaster and the biggest ever investment for a ride at the resort, costing £18 million to build.
To mark its launch, journalists and celebrities were invited to a special night to experience The Smiler's marmalising 14 loops for themselves - featuring a spectacular visual display which brought the rollercoaster to 'life'.
Alton Towers Resorts’ Assistant Technical Manager, Dave Reynolds, worked closely with Jands' exclusive UK dealer - A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) Ltd - and was delighted with the outcome:
“The L5 proved ideal for handling our ever-increasing use of both visual media and LED sources. For this particular project it was crucial”, comments Dave.
In addition, the Alton Towers Resort team utilised some high-output Martin Viper Profiles and the revolutionary SGM X-5 LED strobes, as part of their dramatic light show for the event. On the video side, striking visuals were powered from a Green Hippo Hippotizer media server, controlled via the Vista.
Ben Taylor, Technical Sales Executive at AC-ET, comments: “The production team at Alton Towers really brought the ride to life, making the launch event a visually thrilling experience which complemented the ride itself."
Dave concludes: “It was a pleasure to use the Vista L5. It's ideal for combining fast programming of lighting, LED sources and video. The massive screen and processing power, along with Vista's intuitive software, made our video and light show quick, easy and efficient to set up."
Equally at home on tour or as a venue's house console, the Vista L5 is ideal for touring, rental and production lighting companies, AV companies and venues.
The L5's sleek design is dominated by a stunning 21 inch High Definition Wacom display that provides a crisp, detailed image showing a huge amount of information in a flexible, clear and easy to understand way. Under the hood, the L5 has a powerful engine to deal with even the most demanding shows long into the future. A Linux operating system, Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of dynamic RAM, all contained in a rugged monocoque design that is lightweight yet impressively strong.
